Hello everyone! I really want to thank you all for joining me again for today’s blog post. I know you all have very busy lives and I really appreciate your time. Last time we talked about my biggest hiring disaster, specifically my biggest hiring disaster and the mistakes and lessons that came with it. Now, it’s time to talk about finding the right people. We’re going to start with what makes finding the right people so crucial, before discussing what makes it hard, and how we can make it easier. Now let’s dive in!
The Importance of Finding the Right People
Over the past 11 years, I’ve worked with so many different organizations and companies. In the process, there are many conversations about a lot of different things. Once you get to a certain point in your company and grow to a certain level, however, the majority of the conversations start to regard people. It often becomes about finding people, attracting people, getting people to stay with you, and training people.
You also have to think about onboarding people, finding outsource people, and finding the right vendors. When it comes to getting to the next level, it really is about people, people, people. There are certainly ways you can grow without adding lots of people. Still, if you want to get to the next level, there will come a point when you have to be able to get results through other people.
The Main Obstacle to Finding the Right People
I’ve heard many business owners talk about frustrations in regards to finding people. There have been many conversations about problems in that area and what didn’t work. So it comes as no surprise that many people have a plethora of negative connotations in their head about bad experiences they’ve had with team members, employees, or people they’ve hired. Some have been stolen from, others have been stabbed in the back, and still others have dealt with incompetence on the part of those hired, among other things. The people I’ve talked to have had a variety of experiences, the number of negative things people have in their minds is almost amazing.
With that in mind, I have to ask you a really important question: Do you believe it’s realistically possible to surround yourself exclusively with great people? Do you believe you can build a team consisting only of people who are on board with your culture and are highly skilled for the job you want them to do? Do you believe this is possible? Many people don’t, due to lack of examples or negative experiences, and that’s the main obstacle to finding the right people.
Overcoming the Main Obstacle
Since lack of belief is the main obstacle to finding the right people, you have to focus on your mindset. It’s all about overcoming that limiting belief system that tells you it’s not possible. You can definitely do it, and we can help. Our coaching program has created an amazing process to help you attract and acquire good people. It’s still a challenge, but it’s completely doable.
I know many, many people who successfully surrounded themselves with great individuals despite their doubts, but I always think of a particular business owner I worked with who wanted to be able to travel for a year and work remotely. You obviously need a really solid team to be able to pull something like that off, and he wasn’t sure it was possible. Yet we put hours and hours of painstaking effort into creating a hiring, interviewing, and onboarding process that make for a phenomenal team. In the end, he accomplished his goal and then some, because his company grew while he was away!
Finding the right people may be easier said than done, but it is beyond doable. I just want to remember the following, no matter where you’re at today: it’s possible, you can do it, and it’s worth it. It takes a lot of effort and it takes a lot of energy, but that’s something we’d be more than happy to help with.
